Announcements
On May 31st, our crew will be holding student-led conferences. These conferences will be 30 minutes long with three ten-minute stations (the order may vary): 1) your child will share with you selected samples of learning; 2) your child will share with you reflections of learning with courage, acting with passion and changing the world; and 3) you and your child will meet with me to discuss growth and progress. The format of the student-led conference allows three conferences to occur simultaneously. Families can sign up for a time slot using Sign-Up Genius here: link to sign-up. Please be sure to sign up for a time that both you and your child can attend.
***If you have any outstanding concerns or questions, I will set up a meeting with you at another time. This is purely a celebration conference.
Why Student Led Conferences?
Student led conferences facilitate strong communication about learning between the student, parents, and teacher. These conferences allow students to take ownership of and responsibility for their learning. It also allows students to thoughtfully reflect and set future goals about their work. The presentation and reflection will encourage parent involvement, student motivation, and student accountability. This is a wonderful time to celebrate and show pride in the achievement and learning of your child during this school year.
Additionally, it prepares students to practice speaking and reflecting on their learning, which in later grades will evolve to presenting their learning during 3rd grade and 6th grade showcase celebrations.
The Conference:
The student is the presenter. The parents are the audience. The teacher is the timekeeper and the facilitator.
There will be three ten-minute stations and three families in the room rotating through these at the same time as you). Station order will vary. We call the stations:
Student Work Station: Students will show you samples of what they have been working on (in reading, writing, phonics, math, and expedition).
Teacher Station: Teacher celebrates end of the year student growth and progress.
Showcase Station: Students share with parents how they are working towards REMS Showcase Goals.

*If there is extra time your child may give you a tour of the room so that you can see their End of the Year Self Portrait and the learning that is featured on our walls.
Parent’s Role During the Conference: Please arrive on time with your child to the conference (it is preferred not to have younger siblings present so that the focus is on the student).
***Please ask probing questions! Students will have prepared to speak about their selected works, but it is very beneficial to ask them questions about why they were selected. Here are sample questions to ask:
-What makes this your best work?
-Why did you select this piece?
-If you could go back and work more on this, what would you do?
-What was important to you as you worked on this piece?
-How does this connect to what you learned before?
-How can you use what you have learned in the real world?
-What are you most proud of?
-What has been a challenge? How did you work to overcome that challenge?
-What are your goals?
Don’t Forget:
Please take a few minutes to visit art, music, and PE for your child to share and demonstrate some of their learning. Additionally, Ms. Staci has asked for you to take home your art from the hallways.
