From Ms. Liesl:
We are pleased to invite you to the REMS Primary Drum Circle Performance from 9-9:30 AM on Wednesday, December 21st in the Gym. This experience will be interactive, so be prepared to drum with us! (REMS will provide the instruments for you.) After checking in at the front office, there will be clear, designated areas for all to sit or stand. Our aim is to pack the gym full of music and community as our final celebration before winter break. Hope to see you there!

Primary Program Order/Details

Kindergarten - “Press Here” interactive drumming read aloud.

1st Grade - “Obwisana” stone passing game from Ghana.

2nd Grade - “Tue Tue” song from West Africa.

3rd Grade and D2/3 - “Sarasponda” spinning song.

All - Teacher-led drum circle.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities:

Crew Highlights

Learning Update:

-The next few weeks will have shortened learning literacy and math updates- since our focus has been midyear assessments and samples that will be shared with you during conferences.

-Our crew took the iReady reading and math diagnostic this week which helps measure their growth since the beginning of the year.

-In expedition, we learned how prairie dogs will work together to keep each other safe. We watched a video where a group of prairie dogs scare off and then bury a rattlesnake- woah! Our crew has enjoyed learning all kinds of new facts about prairie dogs- such as how they have different rooms in their burrows, such as a listening room (just below the surface), a bedroom, a bathroom, and a nursery. On Friday, we had the pleasure of having Jackie Sanders who is a Natural Resources Specialist from the Douglas County Division of Open Spaces and Natural Resources. She had incredible expertise about prairies dogs. Our crew learned all kinds of new facts about prairie dogs, their predators, and their role in the environment.

Thank you for sending in labelled snow gear for our snowy days. Also, what a difference of less support and time that it takes for kids to independently put on their own gear- Bravo Crew! Keep practicing! This will give us more time outside for our recess time.

Over the past few weeks, we have been diving deeper into the meanings of our Crew Values. Here are the slogans and words that we came up with during our conversations to remember each crew value.

Our crew loves drumming on Wednesdays.

In library, Ms. Erin read an Eric Carle book and had several others out for checkout. Eric Carle is our mentor illustrator for our ABCs of Crew book.

Mr. Doug is seeing lots of growth with our bike riders! How exciting! We will continue into December.

Our crew is practicing for their "Press Here" performance at the end of the month.

For our buddy time, 4th graders read nonfiction prairie dog books with our crew. They each buddy partnership added a new fact in our Scientist Notebooks.
