Renaissance Adventure Day:
Woohoo! Our crew earned a popsicle party for over 70% registration on the first day!
I wanted to give you an update on our progress! As a school, we have raised $14,384 and our class has reached a total of $2,130.20! We think we can make it even further to help our school reach our goal of $45000 for outdoor improvements, voyage transportation, technology, and the library.

Attention Parents of Boys: Everyday our crew uses the bathrooms in the hallway (before snack, lunch, and IAs). The boy bathrooms have 1 stall and 2 urinals. It seems to take longer than usual. Recently a group of boys told me that they do not know how to use the urinals, so they are each waiting for the stall. Can you please help them with this? Thanks! :)
October 3rd: Offical School Count Day. Please make sure your child is here, on time, and present all day. This is the way that our district determines our school budget, and we need to have everyone here on this day!
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities:
-Friday afternoon volunteer- to help plug in the iPads to charge over the weekend and rinse the paint brushes.

-If you are interested in being a lunchroom volunteer please sign up for our time 11:10-11:30 on this lunchroom sign up.
-Here is a classroom volunteer sign-up for days and times to come in. If you can not volunteer for the full time listed- that is no problem! Any amount of one-to-one formation volunteering is much appreciated, even if it is only 20-30 minutes.

Crew Highlights
Thank you to everyone who came to our Crew Picnic last Friday!
Lots of laughs, connection, and even a double rainbow. :)
A huge thank you to the group of parents who revamped our OLE
(outdoor learning space).
There are all kinds of new sensory walks and new feautures!
Ms. Monica has continued to teach about the 4 zones of regulation.
*Be sure to ask your child to share with you their picture of what it looks and feels like for each zone. (This went home in Take Home Folders today.)
In math, we have been working on making groups of 3, 4, and 5.
We have started beginning addition by exploring how 2 white and 3 yellow make 5. This is laying the groundwork conceptually of what addition is and how we use it.
In reading, we have begun looking at "My Desert Home" as a mentor text for Personal Narrative.
Students have learned that personal narrative has true events as told by the author (using the word "I").
*Notice and make connections to your nightly books and if they are a personal narrative.
Today, students brought home the workbook from our first unit in Phonics.
*Have your child show you and read to you what we have been working on. They should be able to read most of the texts to you!
*Also, there are some fun litracy activities on the back page that support the learning from this unit. Please take a look at the different ideas to help support your child's learning of this unit.
Our crew has been doing such a great job with their WRITING!
This week, they selected a favorite piece to "publish." This process includes adding more details to the pictures, adding more details to the words, and adding a title page. They are incredibly excited to share this "published work" with an audience- YOU- their family.
*Please set aside some time to listen and celebrate your child's "published writing" that came home in Take Home Folders.
Wednesday is our drum circle day!
I hope you enjoyed the video of our "jam session" on Seesaw.
To prepare for our hike, we came up with a list of crew agreements. Each student selected an agreement from the list as as safe choice that they were going to focus on.

Our crew learned about growth and comfort zones.
*With hiking, what is in your comfort zone? What is in your growth zone?
With 4th grade buddies, our crew put together picture puzzles to learn about local wildlife, plants, and trees.
The day finally arrived!
Crew hike day!
Half our crew rode in the bus with me, Ms. Lauren, driving.
It could no have been a more perfect day!
Beautiful weather, warm sun, and cool breeze.
And we were off!
As we hiked, we enjoyed pausing to look around.
Students saw rabbit brush, cottonwoods, ponderosa pine, scrub oak, and yucca right away.
We stopped for many water breaks to keep our hikers hydrated.
"Snake! 1, 2, 3 (back)"
Our crew knew just what to do when we a snake crossed our path.
It was peaceful to watch the water.
I spy... two cormorants!
A highlight of the hike was taking a silent three minutes to take in the beauty of our surroundings. Students really took advantage of this solitude in nature to look and listen in peaceful reflection. I asked for a few volunteers to share what they felt, saw, and heard-
the wind in the leaves,
the sunshine,
an airplane in the sky,
the wind blowing on my face and hair,
the waves of the lake,
and
the geese swimming by.
It was a moment that everyone everyone enjoyed!
*Ask your child about what they saw and heard during solitude.
*This is a great thing to put into practice with your family hikes. Sometimes we are so go go go, that it is nice to pause for a few minutes. :)

What better way to celebrate the first crew hike of
ONE MILE than to eat lunch!
At the end, we had a wonderful debrief circle in which we celebrated students, hiking groups, and our crew. Everyone shared a highlight. Hearing student and chaperone's favorite moments was inspiring!
And we did it! For some, this was a first big hike and it was in their growth zone. For everyone, it was a victory and feeling of accomplishment that they walked ALL THE WAY around the lake. Their ear-to-ear grins of pride were priceless.
Way to go Crew! We did it... together!
WOW. I am SO PROUD of our crew. No complaining. All smiles and great attitudes. Fantastic volunteers. Proud, happy hikers. I couldn't ask for a better Fall hike for our kindergarten crew.

THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEER CHAPERONES! I am so glad you got to see our crew in action and you got to experience CREW, connecting with each other. I appreciate everyone of you in making this such a great first hike for our crew!
